BUT DO WE REALLY KNOW who HE WAS?

The legend of the Marquis is deeply intertwined with Italian history. More specifically, it started in the early XIX century, before the invention of toothpaste. Back then, Italians used to gesticulate even more than they do now, as a way to make up for the terrible breath coming out of their mouths. It was with the goal of preserving the Italian language that our Marquis started developing a paste for dental hygiene. Unfortunately, Italians still gesticulate a lot. But their breaths are undoubtedly amazing.
